Understanding Gambling Risks

Gambling involves financial risks. Play responsibly and only spend what you can afford to lose.

Every casino game has a built-in house edge. Over time the casino keeps a share of what is wagered, which means losing is a normal outcome, not bad luck that is about to turn. Each spin of a slot and each hand of blackjack is independent of the last one, so a run of losses does not make a win more likely.

Treat gambling as paid entertainment, like a concert ticket: decide in advance what you are willing to spend, and consider that money gone. Never gamble with money set aside for rent, bills or groceries, and never borrow to play.

Minimum Age

You must be 18 or older to use Lucky Liner. We ask you to confirm your age the first time you visit, we check your date of birth when you register, and we verify your age against your ID before any money can move.

The age gate on its own is not proof of age; identity verification is. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18, we close it and return any deposits that were made. If young people use your computer or phone, keep your login details private and consider parental control software.

Recognizing Problem Gambling

Problem gambling rarely starts suddenly. It is worth stopping to take stock if any of these sound familiar:

  • You spend more money or time than you planned, more often than not.
  • You chase losses, playing on to win back what you have lost.
  • You borrow money, sell things or skip bills to keep gambling.
  • You hide how much you gamble from family or friends.
  • You feel anxious, irritable or low when you try to cut back.
  • Gambling gets in the way of work, study, sleep or relationships.
  • You gamble to escape stress or to feel better about problems.

One sign does not mean you have a problem, but several together are a reason to use the tools below and to talk to someone. GameSense's self-assessment tools and the support lines listed further down are free and confidential.

Deposit Limits

A deposit limit caps how much you can deposit in a day, week or month. You set the amount and the period in the Responsible Gambling tab of My Account. Pending deposits count towards the limit, so a request that would take you over it is refused, and the form tells you how much you can still deposit in the current period.

Lowering your limit takes effect immediately. Raising it does not: the higher limit is held for a 7-day cooling-off period and your current limit stays in force until then. You can cancel a pending increase at any time before it applies.

Stop 05

Loss Limits

A loss limit sets the most you are prepared to lose, in Canadian dollars. Enter a whole-dollar amount in My Account; it is saved and active straight away.

As with every limit, tightening it applies at once, while raising it or removing it waits out a 7-day cooling-off period. During that week your existing loss limit keeps working, which gives you time to think the change over away from the heat of a session.

Stop 06

Session Limits

A session limit controls how long you play in one sitting. It is easy to lose track of time when reels are spinning, and a fixed stopping point helps you leave on your own terms rather than when the balance runs out.

Set or lower it in My Account and it applies immediately. A request to raise or remove the session limit takes effect after 7 days, and the current setting stays in place until then.

Stop 07

Reality Checks

A reality check is a reminder that appears at an interval you choose and shows how long you have been playing. It is a pause, not a block: you decide whether to carry on, take a break or log out.

Choose your interval in the Responsible Gambling tab. Making reminders more frequent applies at once; making them less frequent or switching them off follows the same 7-day cooling-off rule as the other limits.

Stop 08

Cooling-Off Periods

There are two kinds of cooling-off on Lucky Liner.

  • Cooling-off on limit increases. Any change that loosens a deposit, loss or session limit or a reality check waits 7 days before it applies.
  • Time-out. If you want a short break, choose a time-out of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. While it runs, deposits, withdrawals, rewards (including the Daily Wheel and check-in) and games are paused.

You confirm a time-out with a tick box, and once it starts it cannot be shortened or cancelled. If a longer restriction is already active, the longer one stays in place. Your account and balance remain safe, and everything reopens automatically when the period ends.

Stop 09

Self-Exclusion

Self-exclusion is for when you need a longer break. You can self-exclude from Lucky Liner for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years in My Account. During that time you cannot deposit, withdraw, claim rewards or play, and self-exclusion cannot be shortened once it has started.

Self-exclusion on our site covers Lucky Liner only. To step away from gambling more widely in Alberta, the AGLC Self-Exclusion Program (selfexclusion.ca, 1-844-468-8034) can help you take a longer break. While you are excluded, please also remove gambling apps and unsubscribe from gambling emails, and consider blocking software on your devices.

Account Restrictions

We may also restrict an account ourselves. That can happen when we cannot verify your identity, age or address, when your device location is outside Alberta, or when we see signs that play may be causing harm. In those cases we may pause deposits, rewards or game access and contact you to talk it through.

When a time-out or self-exclusion is active, your account shows the type of restriction and the date it ends. If you have a question about a restriction, contact our support team and choose the Responsible Gambling topic so your message reaches the right person.
